ASYMMETRY IN THE ANGULAR DISTRIBUTION OF THE NEUTRONS EMITTED IN THE $mu$$sup -$-MESON CAPTURE PROCESS IN CALCIUM

The asymmetry in the angular distribution of neutrons emitted in mu - capture in calcium was measured by the method of spin precession in the magnetic field. The value of the asymmetry coefficient was A = -(0.066 plus or minus 0.022). The value and sign of the asymmetry coefficient indicate that the ratio of the constant of the induced pseudoscalar to that of the axial-vector interaction g/sub p/g/sub A/ has a positive sign and a value in excess of that predicted theoretically.
