The finite element-spherical harmonics method is being developed for realistic multi-dimensional transport modelling. This paper describes research aimed at reducing, through parallelization, some of the storage and CPU difficulties associated with solving large 3D problems. Parallelization is achieved through a spatial partitioning of the problem coupled with a multi-block-explicit domain decomposition method for the solution of the system of linear equations. The algorithm presented here is suitable for a large range of parallel computers, from massively parallel to workstation clusters and future multi-processor workstations.
