Novel complexes containing palladium- and platinum-amido nitrogen bonds are formed in reactions of amides (RCONH{sub 2} and CF{sub 3}SO{sub 2}NH{sub 2}) with L{sub 2}Pd(CH{sub 3}){sub 2} and L{sub 2}Pt(CH{sub 3}){sub 2}. Photolysis of Pt(C{sub 2}O{sub 4})(PEt{sub 3}){sub 2} (1) in the presence of amide generated products of the type trans-PtH-(HNR)(PEt{sub 3}){sub 2} (R = SO{sub 2}CF{sub 3} (la), COCF{sub 3} (1b)). Reaction of amides with trans-PtH(CH{sub 3})(PEt{sub 3}){sub 2} (2), cis-PdMe{sub 2}(PEt{sub 3}){sub 2} (3), cis-PtMe{sub 2}(PEt{sub 3}){sub 2} (4), PdMe{sub 2}(dcpe) (5), PdMe{sub 2}(dmpe) (6), and PtMe{sub 2}(COD) (7) produces la,b, trans-PdMe(HNR) (PEt{sub 3}){sub 2} (R = SO{sub 2}CF{sub 3} (3a), COCF{sub 3} (3b), COCF{sub 2}H (3c), COPh (3d)), PtMe(HNR)(PEt{sub 3}){sub 2} (R = SO{sub 2}CF{sub 3} (4a), COCF{sub 3} (4b)), PdMe(HNR)(dcpe) (R = SO{sub 2}CF{sub 3} (5a), COCF{sub 3} (5b), COPh (5c)). PdMe(HNSO{sub 2}CF{sub 3})(dmpe) (6a), and PtMe(HNR)(COD) (R = SO{sub 2}CF{sub 3} (7a), COCF{sub 3} (7b)), respectively. Multinuclear NMR spectroscopy was used to elucidate the stereochemistry and topologies of the new compounds. 17 refs., 3 figs.
