Coal water slurry reburning: Low cost NOx compliance system for cyclone-fired boilers

This paper describes a low cost variation of reburning technology wherein a 50/50 coal water slurry (CWS) is used as the reburning fuel instead of natural gas or coal. It is a low capital, low operating cost reburning system--a low cost alternative to the NOx reduction systems currently being considered for cyclone-fired units. This is almost unprecedented for any type of pollution control system, but if nearby coal preparation plant pond fines can be used to make the coal water slurry, there could even be a payback and not a cost for the capital invested to install a CWS Reburning system.
