Chemical and immunoassay methods allow fast, low-cost PCB screening

Polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) spills are commonly remediated by excavation followed by some form of ex situ treatment. Such excavation requires workers to know where the contamination is located in the soil. As an alternative to the costly and time-consuming practice of sending a series of samples to a laboratory for analysis, chemical and immunoassay test kits are available for cost-effective and reliable onsite screening of soil samples. 2 refs., 1 tab.
