The new compound Li{sub 14}Be{sub 5}B(BO{sub 3}){sub 9} has been synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray methods. It crystallizes in the hexagonal system (space group P6{sub 3}/m, Z = 2) in a cell of dimensions a = 7.730(2) {angstrom}, c = 18.853(2) {angstrom}, and V = 975.5(3) {angstrom}{sup 3}. The model has been refined with 1725 unique reflections to the final residuals R = 0.048 and R{sub w} = 0.067. LiO{sub 3} and BO{sub 3} triangles, LiO{sub 4} and BeO{sub 4} tetrahedra, and LiO{sub 6} trigonal prisms join by sharing vertices to form a unique, dense three-dimensional structure.
