Using the Cologne terahertz spectrometer, the authors measured new transitions belonging to the high resolution rotational-torsional spectrum of gas-phase methanol at frequencies between 580 GHz and 1.1 THz. The newly measured transitions come from 13 Q-branches in the lowest three torsional states (v{sub t} = 0,1,2) as well as the {sup a}R branches J = 12-11, 18-17, and 22-21. A combined data set with previous data has been analyzed via an internal axis method (IAM) in which the transitions in the A and E torsional substates are treated independently from each other.
