LLE 1996 Annual report, October 1995--September 1996
The fiscal year ending September 1996 (FY96) concluded the fourth year of the cooperative agreement (DE-FC03-92SF19460) with the US Department of Energy (DOE). This report summarizes research at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE). We summarize research on technology used in the OMEGA laser; diagnostic development; research on laser, optical, and materials technology relevant to the Laboratory`s research; experimental results from the new OMEGA system (including the first indirect-drive experiments conducted on OMEGA); theoretical progress in understanding laser-plasma interactions and hydrodynamics (including fundamental experiments on other laser systems in the Laboratory and elsewhere); operation of the National Laser Users Facility (NLUF); and education of high school, undergraduate, and graduate students in LLE programs.
