CANDU BOOSTER ROD EXPERIMENT IN ZED-2

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4558815
Experiments have been performed in a simulated CANDU core in ZED-2 to determine the perturbing effect of a CANDU booster assembly on the surrounding lattice, the neutron distribution within the booster and its reactivity effect. The maximum observed flux perturbation in the lattice was ~ + 25% at a distance of ~ 20 cm from the booster whilst the maximum perturbation in the booster was - 43% at the centre of the middle fuel plate. A calculation was performed, using a simplified model based on the ZED-2 measurements, to estimate the reactivity effect of the booster in CANDU.
