Reliability fatigue design of welded structures

This article presents a new design method for fatigue reliability of welded structural components. The method consists of determining the probabilistic crack path and calculating the cumulative probability of failure for new or existing welded structural components with uncertainties in external loadings, material properties and initial fatigue crack geometry. An example of the application of this method to an offshore structural joint with fatigue cracks is presented.
