The attractive properties, such as low density, good oxidation resistance and high-temperature strength retention, make TiAl alloys most suitable for applications in aerospace and automobile industries. However, the low room temperature ductility and toughness which strongly depend on the microstructure restrict widespread applications of TiAl alloys. By controlling the volume fraction of lamellae, the mechanical properties of two-phase TiAl alloys can be improved. In this paper, the influence of lamellar lath orientation on crack propagation has been investigated by in situ straining TEM observation.
