Lattice physics experiments were performed in the Process Development Pile (PDP) and the Subcritical Experiment (SE) to investigate thorium loadings for the Heavy Water Organic Cooled Reactor (HWOCR). The test fuel assemblies consisted of 85-rod clusters of THUD fuel, aluminum-clad rods of 0.234-inch UO2-ThO2 pellets with at Th/235U ratio of 49.03, and of coaxial U-Th metal tubes with approximately the same Th/235U ratio. These fuel assemblies were arranged into regular lattices at pitches of 9.0, 9.5, 10.5, and 12.12 inches in D2O and tested with D2O, air, and "Dowtherm" A occupying the fuel coolant channels.
