The nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) is the most widely adhered-to arms control agreement in history, with 163 states having joined since it was opened for signature in 1968. In April 1995, NPT members will meet to decide by majority vote {open_quotes}whether the Treaty shall continue in force indefinitely, or shall be extended for an additional fixed period or periods.{close_quotes}
