Recent neutron scattering studies of single-particle dynamics of water molecules contained in micropores of Vycor glass are presented. Results of incoherent quasielastic and inelastic neutron scattering spectra from the confined H{sub 2}O are analyzed to obtain the elastic incoherent structure factor, the short time self-diffusion constants, the residence time for jump diffusion, the rotational relaxation time, and the proton density of states as functions of coverage and temperature. Implication for the degree of confinement and slowing down of the single-particle motions are discussed in light of available NMR relaxation data and computer molecular dynamic simulation results.
