A two-term {ital s}-wave separable potential which generates only the 2{ital s}{sub 1/2} single-particle state in {sup 17}O and reproduces the low energy phase shift is constructed. The two-term potential, together with a {ital d}-wave separable potential which reproduces the 1{ital d}{sub 5/2} single-particle state in {sup 17}O, is used in a three-body Faddeev calculation of the {sup 16}O({ital d},{ital p}){sup 17}O reaction.
