Intermolecular Raman scattering and electron-energy-loss studies of {ital A}{sub {ital x}}C{sub 60}

Raman scattering and complementary high-resolution electron-energy-loss spectroscopy (HREELS) have been utilized to study intermolecular dynamics in {ital A}{sub {ital x}}C{sub 60} thin-film systems for {ital x}=3, 4, and 6. For K{sub 3}C{sub 60}, disorder-induced Raman scattering on polycrystalline films and HREELS of ordered epitaxial films on Cu(111) yield information on tetrahedral- and octahedral-site alkali-metal motions, respectively. In K{sub 4}C{sub 60}, disordered films yield broad Raman and HREELS spectra that differ due to coupling parameter variations. In contrast, ordered K{sub 6}C{sub 60} and Rb{sub 6}C{sub 60} indicate {ital q}=0 response functions. Polarized and depolarized Raman scattering provide additional information on {ital A}{sub {ital g}} and {ital T}{sub {ital g}} modes.
