Analysis of ferrometals by activation with 14-MeV neutrons (in Dutch)

ABS>Fundamental aspects and the application of 14-MeV neutron activation analysis to ferrometals as matrix are described. The axially and radially for rs from tolerances and .own method for determineutron flux distribution was measured axially and radially for targets of different diameters, and errors from tolerances and positioning are estimated. The well-known method for determination of oxygen in steel was extended with a statistical study of the precision and errors. Determination of silicon was then studied in detail, using the /sup 28/Si (n,p) /sup 28/Al reaction. /sup 56/Mn wa s used for internal standardization, resulting in a precision of 0.02% Si. Corrections for phosphorus and /sup 53/Fe interferences are discussed. Finally, determination of copper in steels and cast irons using /sup 63/Cu (n,2n) /sup 62/Cu was studied. A computer program allows simultaneous O, Si, P, and Cu determinations in iron and steel. (20 tables, 35 figures, 69 references) (DLC)
