Nodal transport methods are a class of improved numerical techniques to solve the Boltzmann equation. Nodal algorithms are computationally more intensive than conventional finite difference and diffusion-theory-based methods but, in general, yield more accurate solutions. This results in considerable savings in computing time and storage which is especially significant in three dimensions. Nodal techniques have been widely used in solving the multidimensional diffusion equation. In this work, the author discusses the developments in nodal methods for transport theory. In this work the author discusses the development and testing of the two major classes of nodal transport methods, namely the nodal discrete ordinates and the interface-current methods. A brief review of the simplified spherical harmonic approach is also given. 101 refs., 12 figs., 10 tabs.
