Histochemical study of the effect of a deuteron beam on the dental germ

Journal Article · · Riv. Istochim., Norm. Patol., v. 17, pp. 97-103

The histochemical behavior of several enzymes in irradiated rat dental germ was analyzed. A 4 x 4 mm. deuteron beam was employed with a 500,000 rad. doses. Post irradiation times were 1 and 4 days. In all cases an enzymatic decrease was observed that became evident after 4 days. The dental germ showed higher irradiation sensibility than the surrounding bone tissue. Some enzymes revealed reacting cells within the papilla that were interpreted as histiocytes. Dentin formation towards the papilla occurred with inverted polarity odontoblasts. Inversion did not affect enzymatic reactivity. (auth)
