Use of clamp-on transit-time ultrasonic flowmeters in compressed gas applications

This paper describes the use of the non-intrusive Clamp-On Transit-Time Ultrasonic flowmeter in the measurement of flow rate, Custody Transfer Totalization, interface Detection, Batch Tracking, Product Type and Quality identification of liquified and compressed hydrocarbon gas. Actual field data is presented for this technology. The use of the Clamp-On Transit-Time flowmeter in liquified and compressed gas applications is the logical next step to its success in similar applications in the liquid hydrocarbon field. This paper presents both the principle of operation and the differentiated considerations between liquid and compressed gas applications. A comparison between the Clamp-On and Wetted Ultrasonic flowmeter performance parameters is also provided.
