Title: Upper critical fields and critical currents of superconducting zironium-- rhodium alloys

Journal Article · · J. Less-Common Metals, v. 33, pp. 275-282

The intermetallic compound Zr/sub 2/Rh (tetragonal) is of considerable interest since it has a high superconducting transition temperature but is of non- cubic structure and does not contain a Va-group element. The superconducting upper critical field, H/sub c2/, and critical current density, J/sub c/, of Zr-- Rh alloys containing 3, 14, and 33 at.% Rh were investigated. The Zr-33 at.% Rh specimen was composed of columnar crystals at Zr/sub 2/Rh with STA001! simple fiber texture and substructures. H/sub c2/ of Zr/sub 2/Rh is as high as 80 kOe at 4.2 deg K despite its relatively low normal state resistivity. H/sub c2/ of Zr/sub 2/Rh shows crystallographic anisotropy, i e., higher H/sub c2/ when the field is perpendicular to the columnar axis. J/sub c/ of the Zr--14 and --33 at.% Rh specimens is related to their metallographic structures. (7 figures, 17 references) (auth)
