IMTRAN, an image manipulative extension to FORTRAN

Conference ·
OSTI ID:4429768

From 3rd symposium on sharing of computer programs and technology in nuclear medicine; Miami, Florida, USA (16 Jun 1973). In proceedings of third symposium on sharing of computer programs and technology in nuclear medicine. This paper describes an image manipulative extension to FORTRAN and discusses a preliminary implementation. IMTRAN (IMage TRANslator) allows the creation of an IMAGE'' variable by means of an IMAGE declaration statement similar in form to the standard FORTRAN declaration statements such as INTEGER, REAL, etc. I/O operations for the image variable are described as well as arithmetic operations. The preliminary implementation is in the form of sifter which produces standand FORTRAN code in one of nine dialects. Hopefully the use of such image manipulation capabilities as those provided by IMTRAN will result in reduced coding time for experimental algorithms as well as routine programs which are less machine specific and therefore more amenable to inter-laboratory code sharing.
