Stabilizing system of accelerated charged particles (in Japanese)

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4427017
A method of unifying the energy of a charged particle beam was devised without an appreciable loss of the beam intensity. Different energy components of the beam are deflected by means of a deflecting magnet into different positions on an appropriate device which gives energy gain and/or loss. The requirement for the device is such that it gives the position-depending energy loss or gain resulting in wearing the energy dispersion of the incident beam off. A wedge-shaped absorber or a cavity resonator applying the electric- or magnetic- field mode is used as such means. For example, a single cavity-resonator of the TM/sub 021/ mode is capable of reducing the energy dispersion of 10% in a beam with the rectangular distribution in energy from the linear accelerator to 0.1% without a loss of the beam intensity which the conventional method results in the 99% loss in the intensity for the same beam quality.
