A series of experiments to study the effects of gamma irradiation on the tick, Rhipicephalus appendiculatus, is described. It was intended to define the tolerance limits to irradiation of different stages of the tick so that a subsequent series of experiments could be carried out to study the effects on developmental stages of Theileria parva in the tick and also to explore the possibility of producing sterile male ticks in spite of the obvious difficulties of attempting to use this technique for tick eradication.
