Condensations in planetary nebulae
The observed low strengths of hydrogen radio recombination lines in planetary nebulae were investigated. The inclusion of a high degree of clumping in the nebular material is required to reduce the line enhancement predicted by non-LTE theory. Condensations with number densities of about 10 5 cm -3 seem to be required. The nature of such condensations is briefly discussed.
