Parametric study of isotope shifts in Ne I

Journal Article · · J. Phys., B (London), v. 6, no. 9, pp. 1771-1778
An empirical interpretation of the isotope shifts, similar to that previously done for the 2p/sup 5/3s and 2p/sup 5/3p configurations, is performed for 14 infrared lines (2p/sup 5/4p yields 2p/sup 5/3d and 2p/sup 5/5s STA1/2!/ sub 1/ yields 2p/sup 5/4p) of Ne I. In addition to trivial parameters (i.e., the first order contribution of the specific mass-shift inside 2p/sup 5/3d and an additive constant), term-dependent parameters for 2p/sup 5/4p and Jdependent parameters for 2p/sup 5/4p and 2p/sup 5/3d are introduced. The J-dependent parameter z/sub 2p/ is found to have almost the same value (0.6 mK) in the 2p/sup 5/3s, 2p/sup 5/3p, 2p/sup 5/4p and 2p/sup 5/3d configurat ions. The meaning of all the parameters is discussed, taking into account first and second-order contributions of the specific mass-shift and relativistic corrections to the mass- shift. Ab initio evaluations of the parameters, using MCHF (multiconfigurational Hartree -- Fock) wave functions, are also reported. (auth)
