Effect of temperature change on /sup 80m/Br decay in bromoethane

Analyses of the products from the decay /sup 80m/Br combined initially as bromine or bromoethane were made in bromoethane-bromine mixtures at -80 deg C, and compared with those found at room temperature. The changes caused by reducing the temperature are generally compatible with the reduced diffusion which leads to greater scavenger insensitive yields. Yields derived from labile radicals are particularly susceptible to change of temperature and compatible with the occurrence of thermal spikes in the system. Analysis of the Auger electron cascade following internal conversion confirms that thermal spikes are feasibIe. (GE)
