Four companies fined for transboundary shipment violations
As part of a concerted effort to step up enforcement of environmental regulations in the international arena, EPA is more closely tracking shipments of hazardous wastes across national borders. The effort recently resulted in enforcement actions by EPA Region VI against four U.S. companies. Three actions cite companies for improper procedures during transboundary shipments from Mexico; the fourth cites a firm for improper transboundary shipments from Canada. The cases are In the Matter of: Allied Signal Aerospace Co.; In the Matter of: REM-TEX Manufacturing, Inc.; In the Matter of: Jeep Collins JewelryMaker, Inc.; and In the Matter of: Catalyst Recovery of Louisiana, Inc. (Docket Numbers: RCRA VI-314-H, VI-315-H, VI-316-H, VI-317-H, respectively). EPA`s enforcement actions include complaints, compliance orders, and proposed civil penalties against each company; all of the actions were filed on June 17, 1993.
