From international symposium on dymamics of ionized gases; Tokyo, Japan (13 Sep 197l). See CONF-710921 --. The dissipation process in collisionless plasma is attributed to the nonlinear phenomena caused by the instabilities of plasma. Such a collisionless dissipation allows the existence of shock waves in a rarefied collision-free flow. Results of an experimental study of the nature of the collisionless shock front in magnetized and nonmagnetized plasmas are presented here. (auth)
