A method of monitoring neutron fluence is described using thick /sup 235/ U fission-track registers developed for use as a neutron area monitor. The method allows integration of neutron dose equivalent for times up to at least 1 yr. The moderated fission foil-Lexan detector has been found to be a useful method of monitoring the neutron fluence and dose equivalent around the Stanford High Energy Physics Laboratory and Ryan Laboratory Research Reactor. The present yearly dose equivalent limit for an uncontrolled area is 500 mrem and thus a very sensitive methad for detecting the accumulated dose equivalent is necessary and the reported method has been found most satisfactory.
