Anomalous Elastic Behavior of Polycrystalline Nb 2 O 5

Journal Article · · Journal of the American Ceramic Society
The Young's modulus was determined as a function of density and temperature for hot-pressed and sintered Nb2 O5 . Results for the hot- pressed samples showed a linear density dependence, whereas the sintered samples showed no correlation with density. The modulus of the sintered, but not the hot- pressed, samples showed hysteresis on heating and cooling. Results indicate that sintered Nb2 O5 is subject to internal microcracking.
