Hydrogen exchange between organic compounds and heawy water is homogeneously catalysed by sodium chloroiridite; resuits for alkylbenzenes are compared with those from heterogeneous catalysis by iridium metal and are interpreted in terms of the role of pi -complex intermediates. (auth)
