Uranium mine ventilation planning for control of radon and its daughters

Journal Article · · J. Mines, Metals Fuels, v. 21, no. 2, pp. 34-40
OSTI ID:4407481
The additional function of ventilation to keep the concentration of radon gas (Rn/sup 222/, a product of nuclear decay of uranium) and its radioactive decay products below the permissible limits, to guard uranium miners' lungs against harmful radiation exposures in a radioactive uranium ore metalliferous mine is discussed. Control over contaminant influx will determine the dilution ventilation required. The need for a well-organized ventilation system to satisfactorily dilute and remove the contamination that unavoidably results during mining is stressed. (lNlS)
