Heating by helical Alfven waves

From third international symposium on toroidal plasma confinement; Garching, Germany (26 Mar 1973). Recent considerations are presented concerning the use of helical Alfven waves for heating high-density, high- BETA plasmas. The considerations are not limited to either high- BETA or highly compressed plasmas. A practical barrier can be derived by considering the validity of MHD equations, about which the wave damping theory has been developed. (GE)
