Antagonistic effects in reverse phase partition and solvent extraction of Ru(III) from HCl solutions

Journal Article · · Indian J. Chem., v. 11, no. 5, pp. 490-493

The antagonistic effects of n-octanol, cyclohexanol, and chloroform on the reverse phase partition and extraction of Ru(III) by tri-n-octylphosphine (TOP), tri-n-octylphosphine oxide (TOPO), tri-n-butylphosphine oxide (TBPO), tri- n-hexylamine (THA), and tricaprylmethy1ammonium chloride (Aliquat-336) were studied. It is found that the decrease in partition of Ru(IIII) in the presence of n-octanol and cyclohexanol is due to the adduct formation of these antagonistic with TOP, TOPO, TBPO, THA, and Aliquat-336, thereby reducing the free STAextractant!. Similar behavior was noticed during liquid--liquid extraction also. (auth)
