Compositions or radiation hardening (in Japanese)

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4397411
A monomer solution of epoxy resin ester is hardened by ionizing radiation. The process for preparing the compositions for radiation hardening consists of resolving the epoxy resin ester, which is obtained by addition reaction of epoxy resin (epoxy equivalent of 70-4000, hydroxyl group value below 10 - milimole/gram, molecular weight of 140- 5000) and unsaturated dibasic acid or semi-ester into one or more monomers such as acrylic acid ester or methacrylic acid ester of amino alcohol, tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol, and methyl alcohol and/ or such as vinyl pyridine or vinyl pyrrolidone. The concentration of the resin is 10 to 90% by weight. Dose rate preferred for the process is 0.5 to 20 megarads. In the examples, l00 parts of the epoxy novoluk resin are esterified by addition of 39.6 parts of monoethyl maleic acid. The tetrshydroiurfuryl methacrylate monomer solution of this ester is hermetically received into a test tube of hard glass. Then the sealed tube is irradiated by /sup 60/Co gamma rays for 10 hr at a dose or 10 x 10/sup 5/ rads/hr that corresponds to l megarad. The gel value of the irradiated sample is 83.3%. (JA)
