Manufacture of shielding and sealing plugs

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4397017
The manufacture of shielding plug and sealing plug assemblies pose challenging problems since they have to be operable under heavy water at high pressure and temperature conditions. By machining these plugs to close tolerances, a very high degree of ruliability can be achieved. During the fabrication of shielding and sealing plugs for RAPP-2, solutions were found to several problems encountered during the manufacture. They are: broaching of splines, spark eroding of the form holes, soft nickel plating of the sealed disks, and surface hardening of ine components. Plans are also under way to manufacture inconel springs in India, which completes the manufacture of shielding plugs and sealing plugs. (INIS)
