Irrigation: transfer channel for radioactive pollution. Continental radioecological studies (in French)

Journal Article · · Agriculture (Paris), no. 366, pp. 178-180
OSTI ID:4395071
The spray irrigation of crops constitutes one of the ways in which radioisotopes such as /sup 137/Cs and /sup 90/Sr can be transferred to man. The transfer of radioisotopes in water courses was studied. The two ways in which vegetation can be contminated by water are then reviewed: indirect contamination after the storage of radionuclides in the ground and direct aerial contamination. The results obtained in the second case are examined in terms of the absorption and distribution in plants and the consequent risks to health. An estimation is then given of the amount of contamination in the daily food ration and the transfer of radio active pollutants within the site in which the nuclear industries are located. (FR)
