The sialic acids content of the livers and muscles of Wistar rats undergoing 10- and 20-week irradiation to a total dose of 50 R was studied. 1n several of the post-irradiation periods, the sialic acid contents deviated from normal but no pathological significance was apparent. Possible reasons for the changes in the levels in the irradiated organism are suggested. The nature of the disturbance is discussed and the possible role of the liver in the process is discussed.
