In structural design of nuclear power plant facilities. From the standpoint of dynamic analysis of nuclear power plants subjected to seismic disturbances the plant structure can be divided into two categories: primary and secondary structures and systems. This is necessary because it is not feasible to formulate one mathematical model which would, in addition to the primary structure, include all of the equipment, piping systems and other light weight structures. The latter very often has to be uncoupled from the model representing the primary structure. These uncoupled mathematical models are sometimes called models of secondary structures or systems and can be analyzed by using a shortcut procedure of response spectrum approach. Spectral analysis avoids the tedious operation for performing a lengthy stepby-step integration by digital computers. To utilize spectral analysis for secondary systems, floor response spectra have to be developed. The methods used in arriving at the floor response spectra are described. (4 references) (auth)
