Changes in butadiene-nitrile and fluoro rubber structure by gamma irradiation (in Russian)

The effect of irradiation temperature and absorbed dose on cross-linking and destruction of butadiene-nitrile (BDN) and fluoro rubbers and their vulcanizates in the nondeformed and strained state was studied. Irradiation of BDN and its vulcanizates with low absorbed doses caused a simultaneous rupture of the mesh junctions and main chains of the polymer, and with high doses, destruction of the mesh junctions. Irradiation of fluoro rubbers (copolymers of vinylidene fluoride with hexafluoropropylene) caused rupture of the main chains with formation primarily of trifunctional mesh junctions. The rate of destruction of stressed vulcanizates was an order of magnitude or more greater than in nondeformed samples. (tr-auth)
