Title: Application of the exoelectron emission method to the study of zirconium and zirconium-alloy oxidation (in Russian)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4386637

The results of an investigation of the possibility of using exoelectron emission to study the oxidation of Zr and its alloy with 1% Nb were reported. The measurements were made in a highvacuum installation using the secondary electron multiplier of the open type as a detector of the low-energy exoelectrons. From the test results a correlation was established between the knetics of the Zr oxidation and the change of parameters-characterizing exoemission. A connection was established between the characteristics of the emission and the alloying and the medium in which the oxidation was produced. The results of the preliminary investigation showed that the exoemission has structure-sensitive characteristics of the surface of the oxidized material relating to the course of the electron processes at the surface. It was assumed that the study of the oxidation processes of Zr and its alloy can offer predictions on the corrosion stability of reactor materials and the possibility of the selection of the optimum technological regimes of their processing.
