To determine the precise shape of the mass distribution curve, the yields of six products of the symmetric and almost symmetric fission of /sup 237/ U by bremsstrahlung photons with a maximum energy of 14 MeV were measured. The results, which are compared in the article with similar data for /sup 237/Np and / sup 232/Th, verify the existence of separate groups of final fission products in a symmetrical field. Apparently, with an activation energy of about 10 MeV, mass number 236 is the critical value for the mass of the fissioning nucleus from the standpoint of resolution of this group in experimental curves of mass distribution.
