Dislocations and twinning in indium

Journal Article · · Scr. Met., v. 7, no. 12, pp. 1279-1286
The mechanisms of slip dislocation interactions with twinning were studied. It was found that glide dislocations remain glissile When twinning takes place in indium. Dislocation reactions taking place at twin boundaries are proposed that allow glide dislocations to penetrate twins. The change in elastic energy for these reactions is not a prohibitive factor, in contrast to reactions proposed for other structures e.g., bcc. Metallographic observations are resented to support these theoretical results. (JRD)
