Translated from Izv. Akad. Nauk SSSR, Neorg. molater.; 9: No. 5, 805- 808(May 1973). Results of investigations are presented that confirm formation of a solid solution of ZrO/sub 2/ in MgO. The maximal concentration of ZrO/sub 2/ in the solid solution above 2000 deg C is 5 to 6 wt.%. At the temperatures normally used for sintering periclase ceramics (1650 to l700 deg C) the ZrO/sub 2 concentration in the solid solution is less than 3 wt.%. The lower temperature limit of stability of the solid solution is about 1200 deg C. (auth)
