By comparison of the NMR spectrtum of GdZn with those of the compounds Gd/sub 0.9/X/sub 0.1/Zn; (X = Y, La, or magnetic RE), the contribution of the magnetic RE neighbor to the hyperfine field of the nonmagnetic zinc is determined. In the case of GdZn; 85% of the Zn hyperfine field is caused by the nearest Gd shell. The effective excharge parameters derived from magnetic measurements (e.g., paramagnetic Curie temperature) on the binary intermelallic compounds with CsCl structure are compared with the effective excharge parameters yielded by interaction of nearest neighbors, as estimated from NMR on the pseudobinary compounds.
