Five-particle--one-hole states in $sup 44$Sc

Odd-parity levels in /sup 44/Sc are investigated by coupling both proton and neutron d/sub 3/2, holes to states of mass-45 nuclei by using projected Hartree-- Fock wave functions. It is found that most particle-- hole interactions taken from the literature cannot account for the observed low excitation energy of neutron hole states. Energy levels, neutron spectroscopic factors, and gamma -transition rates are calculated using the Erne interaction. (1 figure, 3 tables) (auth)
