A procedure is described for fabrication of dispersion-strengthened zirconium products containing fine metal oxide particles dispersed in a zirconium or zirconium alloy matrix. Zirconium or zirconium alloy in a hydrated, powered condition is mixed intimately with yttrium oxide, magnesium oxide, cerium oxide, or beryllium oxide powder wtth a very small average particle size. The mixture is heated in vacuum until expulsion of hydrogen and simultaneous or subsequent sintering in a compressed condition at a temperature below 800 deg C and preferably below 750 deg C. (DE)
