Method of electrolytically refining zirconium and zirconium alloys (in French)

A method of electrolytically refining zirconium and zirconium alloys is described in which the anode consists of crude zirconium or its carbide and the electrolyte is a mixture of molten salts containing a zirconium compound. This method is made continuous by conveying the cathode continuously through the electrolyte. The method makes it possible to obtain zirconium with a constant purity, the method being fully automated, and alloys can be obtained if the cathode consists of or contains another metal than zirconium.
