Monte-Carlo simulation of the capture and detection of neutrons with large liquid scintillators

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instrum. Methods, v. 114, no. 1, pp. 113-119
The capture and detection processes of neutrons in large gadolinium loaded liquid scintillators have been simulated using a Monte-Carlo program. The capture efficiency and also the probability of detecting a captured neutron depend on the initial energy of the neutron. The influences of the size of the tank and the location of the source are studied. It is shown that any increase of the efficiency leads to smaller variations of both the capture and gamma detection probabilities over the energy range. (auth)
